Professional Learning Options

Professional development and continued support for teachers is essential in order for them to properly teach and implement the CCSS in a way that promotes both an understanding of the content standards and the eight Mathematical Practice Standards. The Mathematics Vision Project (MVP) is able to provide professional development and district consultation that will support teachers as they transition to the CCSS and teach students for deeper understanding. A wide variety of professional development options are available (see below).
Professional Learning Options:
Comprehensive Professional Learning: Developing Understanding for Teaching, Support in Teaching with the CMI framework and MVP Materials
Comprehensive Professional Development will include: 3 consecutive days and 2 or more days during the school year based on your teams need.
Topics include:
· Understanding the sequence of topics throughout the year
· Teaching with the Comprehensive Mathematics Framework
· Five Practices for facilitating discourse
· Experiencing and understanding the mathematics in a learning cycle
· Using the MVP materials to plan for student learning
· Specific planning for upcoming units
· Facilitated lesson study
MVP provides:
· Two facilitators
· Workshop content
· Copies and supplies
Facilities and setup required from districts:
· Room with tables and chairs for participants
· Lunch and snacks
· Substitute expense for participants
The MVP team encourages a thoughtfully planned long-term comprehensive approach to professional development and in addition to providing professional development MVP provides consultations to districts or consortia concerning their professional development needs.
